The first world festival dedicated
to the source code

27 SET

2021

From September 27 to October 8 2021 CODEFEST will be held in Turin, the first festival in the world dedicated to source code, organized by the Departments of Philosophy and Sciences of Education, Informatics and Physics of the University of Turin and by the Codexpo.org association

We are all used to using computers and the programs that make them work almost automatically; we rarely think that behind every program there is a source code, and that this text was written by someone, at some time, in a certain language.

Codefest 2021 is dedicated to source code in all its forms

There will be an exhibition in which historical codes are exposed and explained and their contexts of creation and use are reconstructed, a theatrical performance, conferences and workshops, musical experiences of different genres and inspiration.

The Festival is aimed at an audience of professionals, ‘amateurs’ and interested, high school and university students, but with the ambition of being able to disseminate accurate and captivating source code for anyone.

In fact, at the heart of the event is the idea that programming and its languages represent a cultural phenomenon, as well as a technological one, of primary importance. CODEFEST is the festival of the culture of the source code, of its history, of its future. Not just computers, but WritingSocietyHeritageAesthetics.

CODEFEST IS …

  • Concerts
  • Live coding events with SuperCollider
  • The first happening in the world of calligraphy on source code (with the artist Massimo Polello)
  • A virtual theater show dedicated to Ada Lovelace Byron
  • A series of meetings with speakers of international importance
  • The exhibition of the source code created together with the students of the IIS Avogadro of Turin
  • The opening of the Online Source Code Museum

And then again workshops, seminars and meetings on writing, reading, and translation of the source code.

CODEFEST is a worldwide and open event:

everything that happens during the Festival is accessible online to registered users via the website

SUSTAINABLE KEYBOARDS CLAVIERS DURABLES

Date: throughout the event

Sergio Margarita, has created an artistic format that reuses computer keyboards, the same ones that still today after 40 years are the main work tool for coding professionals.
From keyboards and their keys, Sergio Margarita gives birth to works of art, exhibited in different countries, which hybridize computer input devices with various aspects of life and with sustainability.

For Codefest MuPIn and Sergio Margarita will create an ad hoc exhibition of works online and a dedicated work will be created for the festival.

SOFTWARE EXPO

Date: throughout the event

Within the collections of the Piedmontese Museum of Informatics there is a rich collection of software packages ranging from the times of the mainframe to the present day.

For Codefest MuPIn creates an online exhibition of software packages and their packaging to demonstrate how software packaging has changed over the years.

From the early days when the packaging of computer programs was austere and staid, up to the later times when communication was based on a greater use of graphics and colors up to the contemporary times in which software distribution was dematerialized and virtualized.

La mostra permette anche di ripercorrere la storia del software riassumendo i pacchetti che hanno fatto la storia e che con la loro comunicazione sono diventati pietre miliari e oggetti iconici negli uffici e nelle case con le loro scatole.
